The Galaxy S Light Luxury was just announced in China packing very modest specs, the device is pretty much a "lite" variant of the Galaxy S8. The 5.8' screen from the S8 makes a return keeping the same dimensions as its bigger brother. The Light S features the same Super AMOLED panel with 1,080 x 2,220 px resolution (18.5:9). The phone has a single camera on the back - 16 MP sensor and an f/1.7 aperture. It can record 4K video at 30 fps, but OIS is absent (surprisingly). The selfie camera has an 8 MP sensor with an f/1.7 aperture. The Snapdragon 660 chipset inside the Galaxy S Light Luxury should offer similar CPU performance to the Galaxy S8's 835. It does have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Given the Galaxy S Light Luxury's size, it shouldn’t be a surprise that there’s a 3,000 mAh battery – the same capacity as the Galaxy S8. There’s support for fast wireless and wired charging, the latter of which goes over the USB-C port....
The highly anticipated follow up to Tecno Mobile’s last year
flagships, the Phantom 6 and 6 plus, has been officially unveiled. The Phantom
8 as it is known offers some impressive specs for its rather low price.
This device which will be available in Nigeria, Kenya and other parts of Africa and the Middle East. The presence of Dual cameras, 6GB of RAM was quite the upgrade, several other aspects of the device fell short of 2017 expectations such as the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio or a 90% screen-to-body ratio.
Design
The design of the Phantom 8 feels very premium with the
sturdy metal frame and rounded edges. There is a 2.5D coating on the front of
the device for protection as well as on the back giving it a ‘flush’ design
which should assist grip and make the phone easier to hold and operate.
Display
The display of the Phantom 8 is one area of the device that
didn’t get a worthy upgrade and might come short of user expectations. With a
screen diagonal of 5.7”, this device also retains the same resolution as it
predecessor which is 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is not a bad or terrible display,
but a lot of Chinese manufacturers offer FHD+ for about half the price of this
device.
Camera
Dual cameras grace the rear of this device, featuring a 12MP
f/1.8 Sony IMX386 sensor which has a pixel size of 1.25µm plus a 13MP telephoto lens.
The main camera is capable of shooting 1080p video and features a Tri-LED
flash, 10x zoom, portrait mode/auto refocus, Auto HDR, Superpixel and real-time
filters. The selfie shooter is a 20MP lens with a dual LED flash for night time
or low light selfies.
Software and Features
The Phantom 8 comes equipped with Tecno’s HiOS 3.0 based on
Android 7.0 Nougat but the company is promising a planned update to Android 8.0
Oreo is already in the works.
The SoC at the heart of this device is MediaTek’s Helio P25.
This is an Octa-core processor which speeds reaching 2.6GHz. A Mali T880 chip
is in charge of graphics and the entire package is paired nicely with 6GB of
RAM. There is 64GB of internal storage which should be mighty plenty but there
is a dedicated MicroSD slot for up to 2TB SD cards. A 3,500mAh battery keeps
the lights on.

The Tecno Phantom 8 should be available soon as no official
release date has been given yet. This device is pegged at ¬1,400AED
in the Middle East, NGN135,000 in Nigeria/$380 and Ksh 40,000 in Kenya. While
this device is impressive in several aspects compared to its predecessor, I do
not find this device a compelling upgrade. What is your opinion on this? Let’s
talk more in the comments section below.
Stay frosty.
